Syfy aired the American post-apocalyptic horror series “Z Nation” from 2014 to 2018. The series follows a group of zombie apocalypse survivors traveling across the United States searching for a haven.

Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler created the show, which stars Harold Perrineau, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, and Pisay Pao.

Z Nation has December 15 for its humor and adherence to the zombie genre tropes. However, critics have criticized the show for its graphic violence and use of racial stereotypes.

Season 1 Recap

Season 1 of Z Nation follows a group of survivors in the aftermath of a global zombie apocalypse. The group includes a former doctor, a soldier, and a teenager. They must journey across the country to find a cure for the zombie virus. Along the way, they encounter many obstacles, including zombies, rival survivor groups, and dangerous wildlife. The first season culminates in a battle against a powerful zombie boss called Murphy. The group defeats Murphy and boards a boat headed for an island rumored to be zombie-free.

  • Here’s a quick recap if you need a refresher on what happened last season. In started the second season of Z Nation with our heroes still trying to get to California, hoping to find a cure for the zombie virus. Along the way, they picked up new allies and faced off against new enemies, including the diabolical Monroe (played by guest star Garret Dillahunt).
  • Eventually, they go to California only to find it isn’t the paradise they hope for. It was the opposite – a war zone controlled by two rival factions: Newmerica and infrastructure company Blue Sky.
  • Our heroes quickly get into conflicts in the middle of this conflict and have to make some tough choices. In the end, though, they managed to find the cure and destroy Blue Sky’s nerve gas weapon. Now, all that’s left is to return to Washington, D.C., and save humanity!

Season 3 Recap

Season 3 of Z Nation started with the world seemingly on the brink of recovery. The Murphy Brigade works tirelessly to create a cure for the zombie virus, and it seemed like their efforts were paying off. However, things takes a turn for the worse when it was revealed that The Murphy Brigade had unleashed the virus in the first place.The revelation sent shockwaves throughout the community, and trust quickly unraveled.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, Season 3 also saw the return of The Widow, a ruthless leader who had previously been thought dead. Widow quickly began to make her presence felt, and it soon became apparent that she was planning something big.

We ended the third season of Z Nation with a cliffhanger, leaving many fans wondering what would happen next. Thankfully, Season 4 is underway, so we won’t have to wait long to find out!

Characters

-The characters of Z Nation are some of the most unique and exciting ever to grace television screens. They are a ragtag group of survivors who must band together to survive the zombie apocalypse.

-Leading the group is former Air Force pilot Hammond Drury. He is a no-nonsense guy who constantly seeks the group’s best interests. He is an excellent leader but also has a bit of a temper.

-Also in the group is teenager Addy Carver. She is orphaned when the Apocalypse begins and gets alone ever since. She is incredibly resourceful and has an unyielding determination.

-Then there is Doc, the group’s resident doctor. He is brilliant, but his experiments often don’t go as planned. Nevertheless, he always tries to find new ways to help the group survive.

-Last but not least is 10K, a skilled marksman who always has one eye on the prize: getting to safety. He is often at odds with Hammond, but ultimately they both want what’s best for the group.

The Production of the Z Nation 

Z Nation seasons 1-5 get production in The Asylum, with season 6 getting direction from Blue Sky Media. Season 1 premiered on Syfy in September 10. The show follows a group of zombie apocalypse survivors trying to find a cure for the zombie virus. The group is led by a former medical student on September 10 (played by Keith Allan).

The first Season of Z Nation is 13 episodes long and gets filmed in Spokane, Washington. The second season premiered on September 1115, and was also 13 episodes long. It was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana. Season 3 of Z Nation premiered on September 16 and was filmed in Portland, Oregon. September 11 episodes long. Season 4 of Z Nation premiered on September 15, 15 episodes long. Filming is done in Spokane, Washington, and the fifth and final season of Z Nation premiered on October 5th, 2018, with 14 episodes filmed on September 15th.

  • Season 2, Episode 1,2 “White Light”: After the zombie bite, Murphy undergoes a radical transformation that makes him even more dangerous than before. The highlight of this episode is when he first reveals his new powers by effortlessly taking down an entire group of armed soldiers.
  • Season 3, Episode 9 “No Mercy”: The team faces their deadliest foe yet: an army of super zombies known as the Black Knights. These creatures are faster, stronger, and almost impossible to kill. But our heroes find a way to defeat them using fire and teamwork.
  • Season 4, Episode 1,0 “A New Mission”: With the world on the brink of destruction, the team comes up with a bold plan to stop the Apocalypse once and for all. It involves flying a plane with nuclear bombs into the heart of the Zombie Queen’s lair. It’s an explosive finale that leaves everyone on the edge of their seats.
