PLOT:

“The Suicide Squad” is another band of unlikely heroes that defy the odds to triumph against a galactic foe. The term “Guardians of the Realm” wouldn’t be wholly out of place. Even Gunn’s mentor Lloyd Kaufman makes a cameo appearance in the film, lending it an air of slapstick comedy and overt brutality that he developed while working with Troma Entertainment in the 1990s. There’s no one else who could’ve written anything so delightfully nasty, cruel, and unrepentant as this, and the DC Universe is better for it.

REVIEW:

To be clear, this is a hybrid picture that has confident performers from the previous films and new ones, but it also stands on its own. You don’t have to (and shouldn’t) have watched the Ayer enjoy this one, but it’s also not a complete reset.

Viola Davis, who played Amanda Waller, the leader of Task Force X in the last film, is returning actors. She’s in command of the Suicide Squad, a group of super-powered criminals equipped with microchips implanted in their brains and ordered into combat. Go boom if you deviate from your mission plan. Go boom instead of following instructions. Go boom if you say anything wrong about Waller.

Another gathering of people is arriving on the opposite shore simultaneously as this one, enabling team one to serve as the diversion. From here on out, things truly get interesting. The crew is sent to demolish a Nazi-era jail in the island’s interior, where it turns out an extraterrestrial monster called Starro is being held captive. Lots of mayhem occurs as a result of this.

However, Gunn’s most significant achievement here is controlling this sort of sensory assault and not getting lost in the cacophony, which is more complicated than it seems. He doesn’t let the characters get lost in the chaos of the action, which is a common problem in today’s shoddy blockbusters. A rollercoaster without brakes, “The Suicide Squad” is really a very well-calibrated action-comedy, mixing hilarious rhythms with spurts of extreme violence. Also, this is the most brutal superhero movie to date, making “Deadpool” seem almost tame. As for Gunn’s brutality, it doesn’t stop there; he embraces the R rating that Marvel would never grant him, which means that his characters may have limbs torn from them, and their deaths will almost always be announced with an unappealing, squeaky sound. Most contemporary blockbusters can’t be as fun as this movie is in terms of action. If Gunn and his crew are having a good time, it will rub off on you. Audiences can tell when a filmmaker is making a picture for a business rather than for themselves. When that doesn’t happen, a film has a lasting impact, and Gunn makes this picture with a passionate, Troma-raised heart.

He’s also a great director at balancing a serious tone with his actors’ comic abilities. Both charm and fun were there in the first two “Guardians” movies, and both are present in spades here. By this time, Robbie knows Quinn likes the back of his hand, and Gunn seems to take her back to her roots more than Ayer did (even in terms of color scheme). It’s about time Idris Elba had a chance to shine in an action movie role, and he does just that. Now the rumors about how good he’d be as James Bond can resume. He’s charming and shows some nuance in his character’s internal struggle about being compelled to become a hero. They’re the stars, but everyone here contributes and brings a sense of fun to the proceedings, demonstrating Gunn’s mastery with big ensembles.

Like many contemporary superhero films, “The Suicide Squad” becomes tedious and repetitive after a while, and it’s a shame that a picture created from a provocative pattern ends with heroes and villains smashing into collapsing structures once again. Without giving anything away, the closing moments of “The Suicide Squad” have a great playfulness to them, but the pattern of “huge boom, building fall down” becomes too familiar in the end. Even while the picture is very well-made, its last third suffers from a distinct lack of ambition. Just when the film is about to devolve into tedium, Gunn regains control and focuses on what has always piqued his interest: the underdog. If you ask James Gunn, anyone—the Toxic Avenger, Rocket Raccoon, or The Polka-Dot Man—could be a hero if given the opportunity.

REVIEW:

The movie has fewer than 90 minutes of running time, so it should be simple to watch. Nope. This movie had the odd sensation of running far longer than it does. Much more time. It gets a fast start with plenty of suspense, but as the story progresses, the intensity decreases, and many viewers may lose interest. But the good news is that Prey catches up and keeps the audience interested once again. However, the movie’s quality fluctuates wildly. As a result, Prey seems to be far longer than it is.

The cast may be recognizable to people familiar with the most prominent German actors and actresses. Still, I enjoyed not recognizing any of the actors or actresses before watching the film. Prey’s thrills are all the more credible since we don’t know any of the actors.

REVIEW:

Berliner Alex has a peroxide-blonde daughter named Maxi. There are no elaborate special effects used to recreate the devastation caused by the explosion. Instead, Schwochow focuses on the fall of a struck bird among the dust and rubble. If you can get beyond the fact that the whole scenario is obviously planned and scripted, it’s still an intriguing metaphor.

Because he had just left the building to get something from his vehicle, Alex had miraculously survived. Maxi had also departed for work before the blast. But Ines, the children, and seven other people are killed. That’s when she ends up drifting farther and further away from her father and closer and closer to the beautiful titular Karl (Jannis Niewoehner). He understands just how to use her anger and bewilderment for his own ends and purposes. For Karl, Re/Generation Europe is a fictitious organization that sells “polished” and marketable extreme right ideologies. Generative Identitaire in France, as well as the Identitaere Bewegung Oesterreichs in Austria, obviously influence this movement.) In the beginning, Maxi is just a spectator at these meetings, but the film is predictable enough for viewers to know that she would soon step upon a rally stage and become the center of attention herself.

Since then, Schwochow has been increasingly involved in high-profile television, directing, for example, The Crown’s “Prince of Wales learns Welsh” episode and the first season of the top-rated German series Bad Banks. That experience seems to have given him the ability to set out situations for maximum effect on a bit of budget, which is impressive. (The frequent use of narrow focus and highly saturated colors give the impression that the work is suitable for a music video.) On the other hand, he seems happy to let his characters wander in their situations quite a bit. If character arcs span many seasons, this isn’t a problem. This is a fast-paced film, and it’s hard not to be carried away at times. However, there’s a persistent feeling that Schwochow and screenwriter Thomas Wendrich are content to have their characters merely carry out their acts without making them feel or experience them emotionally.

Highlights include the few times when we are reminded that our heroes really do have emotions. One such instance is when Maxi tells Karl why she misses her mother in an adorable sequence.

What’s left is a smattering of engaging performances. Although Niewoehner’s character appears more enamored with the limelight his political beliefs give him than the ideas themselves, he nevertheless manages to be captivating. Also, as the rebellious daughter and heartbroken father who no longer understand one other in their odd-couple arrangement, Wedler and Peschel are believable.

In that case, it will have to overcome more significant obstacles since there are already so many Fantastic Beasts 3 debates out there that it may place an Avada Kedavra curse on the whole series.

The choice of Korean actress Claudia Kim as Nagini was criticized for being inappropriate due to her race, and many people were disappointed. We know about the controversies around the film, but the third series of this film will give you goosebumps as per inside news.

REVIEW:

Larry Cohen’s photographs have never been renowned for their cohesion. As a storyteller, he excels at coming up with unexpected twists and turns for every tale he crafts. He’s a clumsy director who leaves you dissatisfied since he wastes many good opportunities. Major characters and narrative points vanish from his films for no apparent reason. You’re thinking to yourself, “what a shame on such a wonderful tale!” the whole time. To my delight, I discovered that “Ambulance” is very well put together. It’s a clean-cut this time around. Occasionally, the narrative veers off course, but nothing major. Thanks to Gallagher and Roberts’ spirited performances and Red Buttons’ excellent one, it’s entertaining and intriguing. The action scenes and the interiors have also received some attention from the filmmakers. This Cohen film, in contrast to many others, seems to have a budget. The story moves along quickly, and even if the conclusion isn’t anything special, it’s still pleasant. Also, it was well done on the result. I hadn’t watched “The Ambulance” in a while, but it was a treat to see it again. It was also one of the first films I’d seen by director Larry Cohen. Although “The Ambulance” isn’t one of Cohen’s more well-known works, it’s a compelling story of paranoia with a dash of satire. The premise is audaciously ridiculous, and Eric Roberts’ ham-fisted lead performance is plenty of energy (and let’s not forget that mesmerizing mullet while in motion). James Earl Jones also has a tiny but substantial part as a down-and-out detective on the brink. Even as the action moves at breakneck speed (where he understands how to film on location for maximum impact), Cohen’s aggressively tight directing and screenplay keep you one step ahead as you’re dragged along for the hazardous ride with its manufactured thrills. It appears as if Robert’s character is constantly in danger, which makes things excitingly urgent even if they are ridiculously over-the-top with hilarious consequences. To be more specific, I like the nightclub scene, and the irony-laced surprise revealed at the end. The character played by Roberts most certainly did not. The storyline adopts a more contemporary approach to the classic “mad doctor” concept, remaining suspenseful and gloomy in its pursuit of the truth while also attempting to persuade the public of the danger. Roberts portrays Josh Baker, a comic book artist who approaches the ladies he sees on the streets of New York every day and asks them out. After an event in which she collapses with Josh at her side, a strange vintage ambulance arrives and takes her away. As a result, he visits several hospitals without success. Now that he’s discovered more, he’s fleeing for his life, terrified that no one will believe him when he says there’s a phantom ambulance abducting people. To play “the doctor,” Eric Braeden gives a convincingly clinical performance, while Megan Gallagher provides believable support as a police officer we can put our faith in. In addition to Cohen’s regular James Dixon appearing, Red Buttons is amusingly sharp.

REVIEW:

The most delicate parts of “Jurassic World,” in which a hybrid super-predator goes wild in the troubled theme park, are so excellent that they take you to that exciting mental place where the original director of the series, Steven Spielberg, built a tentpole in 1993. Poor character development, a casual attitude toward animal-on-animal brutality, and an odd male supremacist tendency that borders on sneering at single working mothers who don’t have kids are the worst parts.

A few large-scale action scenes that would make a great film’s director pleased may be included on the ledger’s “smarter” side. They’re punishing but not overpowering and put out with clarity in Colin Trevorrow’s manner, which is Spielbergian but not slavishly so. It’s a team effort, with each shot and edit doing its part. Every new development makes the sequence seem like a tale inside a story with the ultimate objective of escaping away from dinosaurs. The last half-hour is a lengthy pursuit through the dark woods that continually defies expectations, ending in a dino-on-dino bloodbath: a funnel cloud of claws and fangs. The most significant part of the film is when park visitors are attacked by pterodactyls that pick them up like mice from the ground, paying tribute to Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” by having Treverrow play Spielberg. Many things may be said about this filmmaker, but one that cannot be said about him is that he lacks confidence.

While horror fans anxiously await the next episode, there are still many mysteries about the third and final picture. So far, the following is all we know about “Halloween Ends.”

REVIEW:

As a result, returning director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride and Scott Team hardly made the intelligent decision to advance the story. Whereas last year’s Halloween focused on how the original ’78 tragedy impacted Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), this year’s flick goes back and forth in time to show how the village of Haddonfield was affected. Compelling interpretations of powerful themes arise, such as regret in survivors, mob mentality, the macabre attraction surrounding crime scenes.

It’s easy to lose interest in scary movies when the protagonists make stupid choices that put them in peril. On the other hand, Halloween Kills raises the fascinating possibility that these victims are queuing up to be cannon fodder to process their darkest anxieties. It’s easier to meet a tragic end than to spend your whole life in fear. Although Michael Myers only murdered a few people in the first film directed by John Carpenter, he’s become far more deadly throughout the years. The world’s most nimble senior annihilates Haddonfield’s residents, even if the film’s most shocking fatality is one he has only indirect responsibility for.
